Jimmy Speirs War Memorial Unveiling

On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August the extension to the Scottish War Memorial at Passchendaele was unveiled. This included a memorial silhouette for former Rangers and Bradford City player Jimmy Speirs which was funded by Club 1872 members and the wider Rangers support.

We are extremely grateful to Willie Henderson for unveiling the silhouette on behalf of Club 1872 and Rangers on the Saturday and for saying a few words at the memorial service for Jimmy Speirs on the Sunday.

Over 600 people attended the main unveiling ceremony and around 100 were at the Sunday morning ceremony at Jimmy’s grave on the date of his death 100 years ago.

Singer/Songwriter Alan Brydon wrote a specially commissioned song for the occasion and to commemorate Jimmy’s life called Sing for the Boys (Jimmy’s Song).

Once again we would like to thank all the Rangers fans who contributed to the funding of the silhouette. We are extremely proud that Club 1872 was able to play its part in commemorating the life of our former player who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
