£220k Transferred to Rangers For Heritage Projects

Club 1872 has transferred £220,000 to Rangers Football Club with the money ring-fenced to fund a series of Heritage Projects in and around Ibrox Stadium.

We have enjoyed regular, positive meetings with senior officials at the club for the past 18 months and we are delighted to confirm the transfer of such a significant sum.

92% of Club 1872 contributors recently voted in favour of this shift in focus and work will now begin on a number of exciting projects.

They include..

  • Improvements to the Ibrox Trophy Room and other key rooms within the Bill Struth Main Stand
  • The conservation and restoration of Mosaics at the Gable Ends of the Main Stand and the entrance to Ibrox
  • Protective waxing of the John Greig/Ibrox Disaster Memorial Statue
  • The installation of appropriate lighting at the Walter Smith statue
  • The restoration of paintings in the Blue Room
  • Brake Club Banner Conservation
  • And the creation of a new display in the corridor outside the Trophy Room and the Member’s Lounge

The announcement follows our recent appointment of four new directors – John Brown, Alan Fraser, Iain McHolm and Scott Carline – who will work closely with continuing director, Euan Macfarlane.

Rangers Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has thanked the Club 1872 Board and their contributors for the funds.

He said: “The history of Rangers is part of everyday life for our fans, and it’s something we are responsible for protecting.

“I’m very grateful to Club 1872 and their contributors. This is a meaningful show of support, and we will ensure it is delivered with care.

“We see this as the continuation of a long-term commitment to preserving and strengthening the heritage of Rangers for future generations.”

Club 1872 also has an additional £220,000 set aside for any future share issues.
