Club 1872 is delighted to confirm the appointment of a new board which includes Rangers legend John Brown, Alan Fraser, Iain McHolm and Scott Carline.
All four were elected uncontested and their appointments were independently ratified by Supporters Direct Scotland. They’ll now work closely with continuing board member Euan Macfarlane.
As previously communicated, we will move forward positively in collaboration with Rangers Football Club and most importantly the supporters in 2026 and beyond.
The new Heritage Projects model is key to maintaining investment and we are passionate about delivering tangible community improvements at Rangers, however we will continue our Shareholder relationship with the Club and continue to invest in shares when opportunities arise.
9-in-a-Row star Brown said:
“It was a genuine honour and privilege for me to play for Rangers during the 9-in-a-Row era and I have cherished memories of pulling on the famous blue jersey and playing in front of the fans at Ibrox and on the road.
“Rangers is my club but most importantly it’s your club and, like you, I’ll be a supporter until the day I die.
“I’ve been involved with Club 1872 since the very beginning, and I was proud to launch the organisation when it started as Rangers First.
“Fans united behind the common goal of protecting their club and every single one deserves great credit as that backing allowed Club 1872 to reach a shareholding of around 5%.
“The landscape has changed, though, and they are heading in a new direction with fresh ideas, a new board and a clear focus on heritage projects in collaboration with the club.
“I’ve met the people behind this change and Rangers is as close to their hearts as it is to mine. I back them 100% and I’m proud to be elected to the Club 1872 board.
“They’ve worked closely with the club in recent months and have agreed to fund a number of heritage projects that will help enhance the stadium and wider Ibrox footprint.
“Protecting the history of our great club is crucial but we must also look forward and I’m excited about a forthcoming rebrand with a heritage focus.
“We’re all Rangers supporters and together we can help our great club.
“I hope you will join me on this new journey.”
Alan Fraser, a retired advertising and marketing executive, brings experience of managing Rangers events and working with other supporters on fan-led projects, including the working group which formed Club 1872. He said:
“First and foremost I’m a lifelong Rangers supporter, I love my club and all it stands for and I see it as my duty to protect its integrity and stand up for its values.
“I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and have had the privilege of Chairing the committees that oversaw both Walter Smith’s and Mark Hateley’s testimonial years.
“I also sat on the original working group that managed the process of forming Club 1872 and I’m pleased to now be in a position to devote the time and energy required to serve on the board.
“I will focus on using my extensive advertising and marketing skills and contacts to help grow Club 1872 by capitalizing on our Heritage focus and improved Shareholder relationship with the club.
“I see it as an honour to serve on Club 1872’s Board and represent the better interests of its contributors and our supporters and ultimately, I will do everything in my power to freely give my experience and knowledge for its benefit.”
Scott Carline joins with a 20 year professional background in the telecommunications & the IT industry. He has first-hand experience of working in and around Ibrox that gives him an understanding of the challenges involved in maintaining such a large and iconic structure. He added:
“I’ve been a Rangers supporter since I was a boy and my passion for the club has only deepened over the years.
“Like many fans, my attention expanded beyond first team matters during the lead up to, and the aftermath of, the events of 2012. Since then, I have taken a wider interest in the club’s stability, governance, and future direction.
“I’ve also been a committed contributor of Club 1872 since its formation. Over that time, I have followed closely the direction it needed to take in its early years and the exciting new chapter the organisation is now entering.
“This was the right moment for me to step forward – which is why I’m delighted to join the board, with a particular focus on heritage projects that matter to the contributorship.
“In my previous career in the telecommunications industry, I had the privilege of working in and around Ibrox for many years. I witnessed first-hand the challenges involved in maintaining such a large and iconic structure — one visited by tens of thousands every week and regarded not just as a stadium, but as a monument of remembrance for generations of supporters.
“This experience gave me a deep appreciation of the responsibility that comes with preserving and respecting the history embedded within the fabric of Ibrox.
“I’ll do all I can to help develop heritage projects that every contributor can take pride in — projects that protect our history and will be recontributored by generations of Rangers supporters to come.”
Iain McHolm, a lifelong Rangers supporter who previously served as an office bearer in his RSC, brings experience in working with other supporters on fundraising initiatives and organising fan-engagement projects. He said:
“As Club 1872 enters a new chapter, I believe this is the moment to bring fresh energy, renewed purpose and a modern approach to the organisation.
“Club 1872 should be more than just a vehicle for shareholding; it should be a driving force that strengthens Rangers Football Club through meaningful initiatives that benefit supporters and the wider Rangers community.
“Recent engagement between Club 1872 and it’s contributors has reminded us all of the organisation’s true purpose — not only to acquire shares, but to make a visible, positive difference around our club and our stadium.
“With this in mind, Club 1872 can once again become a unifying force, bringing Rangers supporters together with the same spirit and determination we showed when we chased 55, when we overcame Dortmund and Leipzig, and when we stood firm through the adversity of nearly 15 years ago.
“Everything we do should honour the people who are the lifeblood of Rangers Football Club — the supporters. Through every challenge, Rangers fans have remained steadfast, loyal, and unshakeable. A new dawn is rising for our club, and Club 1872 must be part of that progress, with the interests of the support at the heart of every decision we make.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure Club 1872 plays a constructive, forward thinking role in improving the matchday experience and strengthening the bond between the club and its supporters. I will ensure that future generations inherit a club and a support that are stronger, more united, and more empowered than ever.”
Continuing Director Euan Macfarlane added: “I’m delighted to welcome to the board four exceptional additions.
“All four are excited by our new Heritage Project focus but are also determined to help grow our contributor base and capitalize on the strong working partnership we are enjoying with the Club. John, Alan, Iain and Scott will bring fresh energy and ideas to the organization.
“I look forward to this new journey with them. It’s an exciting time! We will still continue to look after our shareholding and explore ongoing investment opportunities as they arise. Aligned also with delivering significant funds to preserve our history, our heritage, our home. It is a truly humbling and exciting prospect and we will all work as hard as we can to support the club we all love.
“I would like to place on record my thanks and appreciation to exiting board members Laura Fawkes and Joanne Percival who have stepped down.
“They both worked incredibly hard for a number of years and deserve great credit for their efforts and support.”
