Club 1872 - One Rangers

Rangers Heritage Projects Proposal

As previously outlined, we have been in ongoing discussions with Rangers Football Club regarding the launch of our new strategy, focused on supporting Rangers by investing directly in our heritage, history, and home, Ibrox Stadium.

Today we are delighted to have reached the stage of seeking Contributor approval to ring-fence £220,000 of funds from the Club 1872 Projects CIC to support agreed upon projects. Details of the proposed projects can be found below. The total amount ring-fenced allows buffer for expanded scope, or to cover additional spend if required.

Separately, as shared in previous communications, an additional £220,000 from the Club 1872 Shares CIC is also available and it has been confirmed that we will be invited to participate in a future funding round by the Club to be used for more general funding.

If Contributors approve the Projects CIC proposal, the Club will proceed to secure final costings with vendors and suppliers. Should any material changes arise, we will return to Contributors for further approval. As individual projects begin, we will provide fuller cost breakdowns and progress updates.

This approach represents the beginning of our transition to a heritage and shareholder focused relationship between the Club and Club 1872. Fundamentally this is grounded in regular, ongoing investment and supporting our greater Rangers community interests, ensuring that Contributors see clear, tangible benefits for their donations. This is just the beginning of this new phase of Club 1872’s development and we look forward to identifying further new projects on which we can partner with the club.

With that in mind, we are pleased to confirm our participation in the Club’s Heritage Working Group and the forthcoming stadium redevelopment feasibility initiative, where additional opportunities for future heritage projects are expected to emerge.

With this strengthened relationship in place, we are now able to resume outreach and social campaigns for new Contributors, giving confidence to prospective contributors that every donation will directly provide funds and project capital to preserve and enhance the fabric of our Club. We did not believe it appropriate to seek new support until a robust strategy and close working relationship with the Club had been established.

To support this new model, we are also seeking approval for investment in rebranding and website modernisation to improve the Contributor experience, as well as communications activity to support new campaigns, project launches, media engagement, and content creation. These developments will help us reflect our renewed working relationship with the Club and introduce our new brand in due course. Website and brand development is £15k+vat, PR and social outreach £24k+vat.

Finally, we will shortly share separate details of our election plans, and we would encourage our Contributors who are eligible to stand to consider applying for one of the available board places.

Thank you all for your patience as we put every effort into building the relationship with the Club and for your ongoing support. This is an incredible opportunity to invest in the future of the Club and the time is right to encourage new contributors to join, knowing that approximately 95 pence of every £1 donated can go towards the Club, Rangers heritage and Ibrox Stadium.

Projects proposed to be supported by Club 1872:

Improvements to Ibrox Trophy Room and other key rooms within the Bill Struth main stand building.

Improvements to the room’s fabrics, including consistent wall finishes, electrical works, improved lighting, enhanced security, and preservation of artefacts. This extends across the Trophy Room, Managers office, Blue room and potentially beyond.

Mosaics – Main Stand Gable Ends

Conservation and restoration of the lion crest mosaic at both ends of the Main Stand. The Copland end requires significant restoration.

Mosaics – Main Stand Front Door

Restoration of the entrance porch mosaic crest, which is currently damaged through wear, cracking, and dis-colouration.

Main Stand Structural Steel

Cleaning of the white structural steelwork by specialist contractors to remove dirt, algae, and biological growth.

Main Stand Facade Works

Structural engineering assessment to define the scope for future preservation and restoration of the iconic Archibald Leitch façade. This is expected to support significant future restoration projects for Club 1872 in the future.

Blue Pitch-Side Track

Reconditioning of the blue track that goes around the pitch at Ibrox Stadium.

Brake Club Banner Conservation

Conservation work needs to be carried out on the brake club banner the club previously purchased as part of its heritage strategy. The objective is to stabilise and preserve the object. Until this is done it cannot be put on display.

Blue Room Paintings

Restoration of the existing mosaic-style paintings in the Blue Room where areas have deteriorated. Any future additions or extensions would be costed separately.

Statue Waxing

Protective waxing of the Ibrox Disaster Memorial statue and Walter Smith statue. The Ibrox disaster Memorial statue in particular is showing signs of deterioration.

Minute book digitisation (and supporter engagement)

Digitisation of the Club’s historic, hand-written minute books, which require specialist scanning and interpretation. This could include a supporter engagement element similar to other clubs’ successful transcription initiatives.

Cap Corridor Outside Trophy Room

Creation of a new display in the corridor outside the Trophy Room and Members Lounge, where the cap collection previously sat before its transfer to the Museum.

Walter Smith Statue Lighting

Installation of appropriate lighting to illuminate the Walter Smith statue at night, matching the treatment given to the John Greig memorial statue.
